It is fair to say that channel letter signs for Southeast Michigan are among the most commonly requested markers that Majestic Sign & Design produces. And why not? They are durable, adaptable and they get noticed. If you are thinking about adding this kind of signage to your business property’s facade, you are in great company. Consider your options carefully!
Height Matters
The International Sign Association (ISA) counsels that entrepreneurs should allow an inch in height for every 25 feet of distance. If you follow this standard, your exterior channel letters will take up a sizable portion of your building’s wall, which in turn ensures that pedestrians and motorists alike are sure to find you with ease.
Details of Construction
Aluminum is the favorite material for this kind of marker. It neither rots nor dents. It withstands the elements and gives you years of useful life out of your building marker. Depending on your choice of illumination, we can manufacture the letters from solid aluminum and then paint them to complement – or contrast from – your building colors. If you prefer built-in illumination, the fronts or backs of these letters can be made from acrylic that allows the light to escape.
Should You Choose Lit or Unlit Lettering?
Due to the substantial size of the lettering, it is not always necessary to add lighting to the mix. This is particularly true if the building’s front or side is lit with already installed illumination sources. In some cases, this might even be a landscape light that is expertly aimed at the marker.
On the other hand, lit letters help your business to stand out more once the sun goes down. Even here, there are choices.
- Frontal lighting. These letters usually feature an acrylic front plate that allows the light to escape. LED or neon tubes provide the illumination. If your letters showcase a dark red during the day, they will display with a lighter red at night.
- Halo lit. When you choose halo illumination, the fronts of the letters are solid aluminum. The backs, however, a made of clear acrylic. When the light turns on at night, the light escapes through the back and beautifully illuminates the signage from behind.
- Mixed lighting. You might choose to keep the backs clear and use colored acrylic front covers as well. This allows light to escape from the front and back of the letters, which results in a slightly muted frontal illumination and a less noticeable halo effect.
There are clearly many choices to make when choosing your channel letter signs. For Detroit, Michigan, it is generally a good idea to opt for lit signage unless your business is located in an office park that only observes standard business hours. For retail locations and after-hours service establishments, the light is a much-needed beacon to send consumers your way.
